A Jubilee Garden was commissioned in late 2013 for a corner of the graveyard. The site is tucked into a curve in the stone boundary wall, and commands stunning views over the Tyntesfield Estate and the hills beyond.
The garden was to be peaceful, sociable at times, and to allow refelction for all those visiting the churchyard and tending graves.
We worked around some existing graves and inserted new path for access to the garden.
Many of the plants chosen for the garden have biblical connections and references - olives, figs, crown of thorns and passion flower. Others were chosen simply for their beauty, scent and suitablity for the sun trap which is nevertheless exposed and windy.
The garden was built in spring 2012 by Down To Earth Gardens, of Ham Green near Pill, and planted by members of the congregation, who continue to tend it with care.
